Which Products Get a DPP First in Belgium?

In short: batteries are expected to be first, with textiles and iron and steel among the early priorities. The order is the same in Belgium as across the EU, because the Digital Product Passport comes from the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, which is directly applicable throughout the Union.

The roll-out is group by group

The ESPR is a framework, and the passport applies to one product group at a time through delegated acts. So there is no single day when every product in Belgium gets a passport; instead, each group arrives on its own indicative schedule.

Indicative early groups

• Batteries, with a passport indicatively from 18 February 2027.
• Textiles, flagged as an early priority, indicatively from around 2027 onwards.
• Iron and steel, also an early priority on a similar indicative horizon.

For a Belgian seller, the point is to check whether you handle any of these categories and to follow the delegated acts as they develop. Remember too that Belgium works in Dutch, French and German, so plan to present passport information in a language your customers understand, and note that enforcement runs through Belgian market surveillance authorities.

Because these dates are indicative and set group by group, treat this as a qualitative guide and confirm the current position with the relevant Belgian authority before relying on it.
