When Will the DPP Apply to Polish Sellers?
Digital Product PassportIn short: there is no single date. The Digital Product Passport applies to Polish sellers gradually, one product group at a time. It stems from the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, which entered into force on 18 July 2024 and is directly applicable across the EU, Poland included.
A framework filled in by delegated acts
The ESPR is a framework regulation. It does not impose passport obligations on all products at once. Instead, the detailed requirements for each product group are set out in separate delegated acts, each with its own timing. So the question is not when the DPP applies in general, but when it applies to your particular products.
Indicative early timing
- Batteries are expected to be first, with a passport indicatively from 18 February 2027.
- Textiles and iron and steel are early priorities, indicatively from around 2027 onwards.
- Other groups follow as their delegated acts are adopted.
These dates are indicative rather than guaranteed, so a Polish seller should identify which categories they handle and follow the relevant delegated acts as they develop. The same EU rules apply in Poland as elsewhere; enforcement runs through Polish market surveillance authorities and information should be available in Polish.
Because timing is indicative and set group by group, treat this as a qualitative guide and confirm the current position with the relevant Polish authority before relying on it.
