What Is ČOI, the Czech Trade Inspection?
GPSRThe ČOI is the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (Česká obchodní inspekce), the Czech body associated with market surveillance and consumer protection for many categories of goods. Under the EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 — the GPSR — enforcement happens through national market-surveillance authorities, and in the Czech Republic the ČOI is the authority most likely to be relevant for product-safety matters.
What the ČOI Does
Broadly, the ČOI oversees whether goods and services on the Czech market meet applicable requirements, including product-safety rules. Because the GPSR has applied across the EU since 13 December 2024 and takes direct effect in the Czech Republic, the ČOI is a natural point of reference for GPSR-related oversight of products sold into the Czech market.
What This Means for PrestaShop Sellers
If you ship to Czech consumers, assume Czech product-safety oversight applies to your listings. In practice that means ensuring your products are safe, that an EU responsible person is identified for non-EU goods, that your listings carry the Article 19 information, and that safety warnings and instructions are available in Czech.
Remember that unsafe products can be shared between EU authorities through the Safety Gate rapid alert system, so an issue elsewhere in the Union can reach the Czech Republic. The precise procedures and enforcement actions are for the authority to decide, so treat this as a qualitative overview.
