What Are the Omnibus Rules for Hungarian Webshops?

Omnibus Directive

In short: Hungarian webshops must follow the EU Omnibus rules, transposed into Hungarian law from the EU Omnibus Directive (Directive (EU) 2019/2161, applicable since 28 May 2022). The best-known part is the 30-day lowest-price rule for discounts, but the Omnibus changes also cover review and ranking transparency.

The main duties

  • Price reductions: the “before” price must be the lowest price applied in the 30 days before the discount.
  • Reviews: explain whether and how you verify that reviews come from genuine purchasers.
  • Rankings: disclose the main parameters behind search rankings and flag any paid placement.

How it works in practice

For a Hungarian webshop, the practical takeaway is that a discount claim should be honest against the item’s recent price history, and that transparency around reviews and rankings is expected. Consumer-protection enforcement in Hungary runs through the government-office system, and price information should reach shoppers in Hungarian so offers are genuinely clear.

Because national specifics can change, treat this as a qualitative guide and confirm the current position with the relevant Hungarian consumer-protection authority before relying on it. For context, see our Hungary country page.
