Does SOI Enforce GPSR in Slovakia?

Yes. In Slovakia, the Slovak Trade Inspection (SOI) is the national market surveillance authority for consumer product safety, and it enforces the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), Regulation (EU) 2023/988. The GPSR has applied directly across the EU since 13 December 2024, and Slovakia relies on SOI to supervise how it is met on the local market.

What SOI can do

SOI can inspect products offered to Slovak consumers, request information and documentation from sellers and economic operators, and order corrective measures where a product is unsafe. Depending on the risk, that can mean requiring changes, restricting sales, or arranging withdrawal or recall of a dangerous product.

Connected to the Safety Gate

SOI also takes part in the EU-wide Safety Gate rapid alert system. When a dangerous product surfaces in Slovakia, SOI can raise an alert; when one is reported elsewhere in the EU, SOI can act on it locally. This means a product flagged in another Member State may still draw attention in Slovakia.
