Does GPSR Require Greek-Language Safety Information?
GPSRIn short: for products sold to consumers in Greece, safety information should be provided in Greek. The GPSR — the EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 — expects warnings, instructions and safety information to reach consumers in a language they can easily understand, and for the Greek market that language is Greek.
Why Language Matters Under the GPSR
Safety information only protects a consumer if they can read and act on it. The GPSR, which has applied across the EU since 13 December 2024, therefore ties safety warnings and instructions to a language the consumer understands. Each Member State’s market points to its own language, so goods aimed at Greek buyers should carry Greek-language safety content.
What This Means for PrestaShop Sellers
If your store operates mainly in English or another language, do not assume that is enough for Greek customers. Plan for Greek-language warnings, instructions and safety notices on products destined for Greece, and make sure this content is available at the point where it matters — on the listing and with the product.
This sits alongside the Article 19 listing requirements, which include manufacturer contact details and, for non-EU goods, the EU responsible person. Enforcement in Greece is handled through the national market-surveillance framework under the General Secretariat for Consumer Affairs. The specifics of how any authority assesses language adequacy are qualitative and for the authority to determine.
